About Me
Why Honey? Because I've been told I'm a sweet person and a pleasure to work with. It's also what I sound like. I didn't get to choose the nickname, but you work with what you got.
Justin Montafia began playing guitar at fourteen when his Uncle gave him a Yamaha with five strings on it. Ever since then, he has been on a mission to be the best at what he does and see where his pickin' can take him. Nine years, five bands, four EPs, one album, and a jazz education later, he is still on that mission.
Going to SUNY New Paltz with his Rock and Blues roots, Justin began playing bars and clubs all around the Hudson Valley, where he learned to properly gig. Eventually, he stumbled into the jazz department and under the tutelage of Mark Dzuiba, and Stephen Raleigh, he learned he would always be learning jazz.
Graduating in 2024, Justin is a young and aspiring musician who is always looking to play, and more importantly, to listen and learn.
“One day you'll play something that moves me, not just stand there playing a lot of fast notes.”
